A Ronnie James Dio feature-length documentary is happening – Death Wish Coffee Company

Ten years after his death, the man who popularized the sign of the horns is the subject of a documentary.

Variety reports that the film will be the first-ever career-spanning documentary to cover the early life and 40-year career of Ronnie James Dio.
Dio is a metal legend and is known for his amazing vocals in line-ups that include Rainbow, Elf, Heaven & Hell, and Dio; he also replaced Ozzy Osbourne as the lead vocalist for Black Sabbath in 1979.
The film is being produced by German music company BMG. Wendy Dio, the late singer’s wife and manager is one of the executive producers of the film. This documentary is also the first documentary about the late singer that is fully authorized by the artist’s estate.
“I am very excited to be working with BMG on Ronnie’s long-awaited documentary,” Wendy Dio said in a statement to Variety. “Ronnie loved his fans and I hope they will enjoy this trip through Ronnie’s life.”
The film will be set against the backdrop of Dio’s unfinished autobiography and will include rare footage and photos from his personal archives. According to the statement, the film will offer intimate scenes with Dio’s closest peers, friends, and family.
The documentary will not only look not only at his personal life and career, but also dives into his extensive charity work. This includes the Dio-helmed Hear ‘n Aid — the metal world’s answer to Band Aid and USA for Africa in 1985. The charity raised more than $1 million in a year. The documentary will also highlight the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund, founded in his honor, which has raised more than $2.5 million to fund cancer research.
