Ohio bars and restaurants are now allowed to sell alcohol with takeout and delivery purchases, at least during the coronavirus mandated closures.
Earlier today the Ohio Liquor Control Commission passed an emergency rule allowing establishments with an existing on-premises liquor permit to sell and deliver alcohol for off-premises consumption.
Customers will be able to purchase up to two pre-packaged drinks, including high-proof liquor, with each meal. Drinks must be closed and remain closed during transport per Ohio open container law.
This rule will remain in effect for 120 days unless rescinded by the Liquor Control Commission. Other states such as New York and Texas have implemented similar measures to support restaurants and bars that have been forced to close their dining rooms during the outbreak of COVID-19.
Certain alcohol manufacturing license holders such as breweries and wineries were able to sell their own own alcoholic beverages before today’s emergency rule went into effect, however they are now also allowed sell beer and wine that they did not produce under the new rule.
